You’re sitting a Limit Hold ‘Em poker table with reasonably solid players. You’ve got a decent hand - two pair and have been betting it from late position. There is one player left after the turn, who calls your bet, and then the river brings a third card to a suit. Now there is a flush possibility out there.
Your opponent bets, and you get a sinking feeling in your stomach that he has hit a flush. You know this player is fairly solid and typically does not play a hand without at least a reasonable draw to a win. You figure you should fold and are prepared to muck your cards.
Then out of nowhere a demon in your head contradicts that common sense move, and instead you make the call. You figure your hand is probably beat, but you want to see it for certain despite the overwhelming evidence.
This is a “crying call” - making a call to a bet to see the other player’s cards even when you know you are beat. It is a foolish mistake in poker online and can add up to being an expensive error when done repeatedly.
When your gut tells you your hand is beat, listen. Don’t indulge in crying calls just to satisfy your curiosity. Accept defeat, save your chips and move on to the next hand when you play poker online.
