A vital issue for numerous students is how to spend their gap year between school/college and university, or sometimes the year after graduation (which many students take now as their “gap year”). While traveling is the obvious option, there are other choices to think about, like volunteer work, or to plunge yourself into a christian discipleship course for 11 months with DNA (dna-uk.org). This article looks in greater detail this particular choice.

DNA are providing an 11 month long experience of total immersion into Christian Discipleship, ranging from October to August. This is seen as a “year in with God, not a year out.”, needing the enrollee to dwell within a Christian environment - either within your own church if you currently attend one, or an assigned church if you’re not presently a fellow member of a church. Your typical day will involve assisting with the day to day activities of the church, and to be trained by its fellow members in bible studies. The course promises faith in action, so those who join can expect a rather practical experience of living their faith, and not only the study of it.

Further advantages of the studies include:-

  • being risky, radical and life changing
  • it’s practical; what you’ll study is what you will do
  • dependence on the person and might of the Holy Spirit in and through you
  • relational, non-religious Christianity; it’s fun!

There are 3 types of course open : Track 1 is the most common access point to DNA - it is the fullest DNA expereince. The over-whelming bulk of individuals select this as the best-fit choice for them. Track 2 is more appropriate to you if taking a full “year-out” is not practically possible. This could be for reasons such as work or family commitments. Track 2 consequently provides some flexibility. Track 3 provides individuals the chance of coming in to be with us for as many specific training sessions or days as they want.
